As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the autumn breeze in Xiamen carries a hint of coolness and the festive atmosphere. For people in southern Fujian, the crisp sound of dice is an indispensable part of the Mid-Autumn tradition—a ritual unique to the dice game, Bo Bing.
Yesterday afternoon, the Zhongyuan Shengbang office held its own Mid-Autumn Bo Bing celebration. Familiar workstations, conference tables, the usual large bowls, and six dice—all became special for this day.
The crisp sound of dice broke the usual office quiet. The most exciting moment, the “Zhuangyuan with Golden Flower” (four red “4”s and two “1”s), appeared quickly. Cheers erupted instantly across the office, with applause and laughter surging like waves, igniting the enthusiasm of the entire event. Colleagues teased one another, their faces glowing with festive joy.
Some colleagues were incredibly lucky, rolling double or triple reds repeatedly; others were tense yet excited, with each throw feeling like a gamble of fate. Every corner of the office was filled with laughter, and the familiar environment was illuminated by the lively Bo Bing atmosphere.
This year’s prizes were thoughtful and practical: rice cookers, bedding sets, double-hot pot sets, shower gel, shampoo, storage boxes, and more. Whenever someone won a prize, playful envy and jokes filled the air. By the time all prizes were claimed, everyone had taken home a gift they liked, their faces radiating contentment.
In southern Fujian, especially in Xiamen, Bo Bing is a warm symbol of reunion. Some remarked, “Playing Bo Bing at work feels like celebrating with family at home,” and “The familiar office comes alive with this dice game, adding a touch of festive warmth to our busy workdays.”
